CD REVIEW -Let's be still by Pauline McKinnon
"Let's be still", is a 2CD set of stillness meditation for children and adolescents.
Pauline McKinnon is well qualified to present us with this CD, as not only she is a pioneer in the treatment of using stillness meditation to treat anxiety disorders in adults but she has also worked for many years to develop programs for young people in stillness meditation. Some primary schools have now successfully introduced stillness programs into their curriculum. Let's hope every school can do the same, as this is a very important CD.
Managing stress naturally is a vital life skill for all of us and to have learnt it as a child could have saved us years of anxiety as adults. If you have children that suffer from anxiety there is no doubt that this CD will improve their lives. For children that do not suffer from anxiety this CD gives them a skill which they can call upon at any time throughout their lives.
Disk 1 concentrates on seven to nine year olds and the ten to twelve year olds. It explains easily and clearly what stillness mediation is and why it is important to incorporate it into our daily lives. The children are then lead through a lovely practice session which is simple and easy but very enjoyable.
Disk 2 is for the adolescents and is a little more detailed in its explanation of the benefits of stillness. It too has a practice session which is calming and very soothing.
Both parents and children will reap enormous benefits of daily practice with this CD. I would also highly recommend the books, Let's be Still (A Teaching Manual) and Quiet Magic, by Pauline McKinnon which can be used in conjunction with this CD.
