Help Is At Hand For High Anxiety
The Mail - Wednesday, February 5, 2003.
For Deer Park resident Eva Savov there is nothing better than helping anxiety disorder sufferers overcome their fears. Ms Savov facilitates the Western Suburbs Anxiety Support Group, which meets weekly at the South Kingsville Community centre.
The 31-year-old counselling student and telecommunications worker has been facilitating the support network for three years. She claims it has been the most satisfying experience she has had.
Ms Savov said the support group was open to people suffering from anxiety disorder, as well as to their family and friends. It was designed to help people cope with their disorder and make them aware that they are not alone in their suffering.
"People suffering an anxiety disorder frequently display irrational
fears," she said. "They are often unable to venture from their
immediate environment and sometimes suffer an intense fear of
social interaction."
"The support roup allows people to express their feelings and
provides a forum for discussion," Ms Savov said.
·Support Group meetings are at 7.30-9.30pm on Tuesdays at the South Kingsville Community Centre, 43 Paxton Street, South Kingsville. Cost is $3 members and $5 non-members.
